The flag of Wales (Welsh: Baner Cymru or Y Ddraig Goch, meaning 'the red dragon') consists of a red dragon passant on a green and white field. As with many heraldic charges , the exact representation of the dragon is not standardised in law.
The Tudor dynasty became established in England in 1485, and its first monarch, Henry VII, chose white and green as his livery colours. His red dragon symbol was attributed to Welsh ancestors, and that dragon was recognized in 1801 as the official badge of Wales.
