Sir James, second son of Sir John, being the fourth and last baronet of this branch, died without issue in 1755 (fn. n1) , and was succeeded in his estates at Whitehaven by Sir James Lowther, of Lowther, Bart. who in 1784 was created Earl of Lonsdale.

Wyndham too was an M.P. 1782–4 and 1790–6, and he converted and took up residence at Caldrees Manor in Ickleton.
