Nach dem Zeitsprung. Near hat sein erstes Gespräch mit dem neuen L (Light Yagami). Inzwischen hat Near die SPK gegründet und sich drei Jahre lang alleine mit dem Fall Kira beschäftigt. Außerdem stehen das Amerikanische FBI und die CIA unter seiner Kontrolle. Als der Polizeichef aus Tokio entführt wird, tötet Light ihn mit seinem Death Note.
