His parents, King Henry VII and Elizabeth of York, were kick-starting the new Tudor dynasty after the tumultuous Wars of the Roses, and Arthur’s birth in September 1486 cemented their ascendancy into power.
Arthur Tudor was born shortly after midnight on September 20, 1486, just eight months after his parent’s marriage. King Henry was optimistic and insisted his son be born at Winchester, the legendary capital of King Arthur’s Camelot.

He married Catherine of Aragon in 1501, but he died five months later. Catherine married her former brother-in-law Henry VIII in 1509.
