25 de jul. de 2022 · Thabo Mbeki, who succeeded Nelson Mandela as South Africa’s second post-apartheid president, celebrated his 80th birthday on 18 June 2022. Following Mandela’s era of multiracial and multicultural rainbowism, Mbeki had to squarely address the challenges of acute inequality and the numerous grievances of the black majority caused by colonialism and apartheid.
Dr Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki was born on 18 June 1942 in the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. He joined the ANC Youth League in 1956 at the age of 13 and left South Africa for exile in 1962. Dr Mbeki read Economics at Sussex University in England up to master's degree level. He was a member of the ANC National Executive Committee (NEC).
