I really enjoyed the first half of this book. It seemed engaging and like the author was going somewhere with the details. It unfortunately turned into a pointless travelog in the second half and stopped talking about Gypsies and Gypsie culture, and more about the chronic destitution that seems to have ravaged all of eastern Europe. it's not surprise to me that a minority group is doing so ...
Bury Me Standing: The Gypsies and Their Journey ought to be required reading for anyone who believes they know a thing or two about European history. As it turns out (speaking from personal experience), one might even possess an advanced degree in the subject and still need educating about the history of this intriguing European population.
