A star with a mass like the Sun, on the other hand, can continue fusing hydrogen for about 10 billion years. And if the star is very small, with a mass only a tenth that of the Sun, it can keep fusing hydrogen for up to a trillion years ...
Low and medium-mass stars then evolve into red giants. However, high-mass stars 10+ times bigger than the Sun become red supergiants during their helium-burning phase. Supergiants are consuming hydrogen fuel at an enormous rate and will consume all the fuel in their cores within just a few million years.

High mass stars are hotter and more luminous than low mass stars. You can see this from the data above: the temperature of stars is directly tied to their color: higher mass, hot stars are blue while lower mass, cooler stars are red. The color differences are subtle, but can still be distinguished by eye when looking at stars in the night sky.
The maximum mass that a star can end its life with and still become a white dwarf—1.4 MSun —is called the Chandrasekhar limit. They usually have a convection zone, and the activity of the convection zone determines if the star has activity similar to the sunspot cycle on our Sun.
