Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery was one of the most prominent and successful British commanders of the Second World War (1939-45). Affectionately known as 'Monty', he commanded the Allies in North Africa and in the subsequent invasions of Italy and Normandy.
Foi presidente da organização permanente da defesa da União Européia Ocidental (1948-51) e posteriormente comandante do Quartel-General Supremo da Organização do Tratado do Atlântico Norte (OTAN), entre 1951 e 1958. Escreveu suas memórias (Memoirs – 1958) e The Path to Leadership (1961).
