ROBERT CECIL, 1st Earl of Salisbury, English lord treasurer, the exact year of whose birth is unrecorded, was the youngest son of William Cecil, 1st Lord Burghley, and of his second wife Mildred, daughter of Sir Anthony Cooke, of Gidea Hall in Essex. He was educated in his father's house and at Cambridge University.
30 de abr. de 2024 · Robert Cecil was the second surviving son of the 2nd Marquess of Salisbury, who had married Frances Gascoyne, an heiress to large landed estates. Cecil’s elder brother suffered from a debilitating illness all his life and died in 1865; thus Lord Robert Cecil became heir to the estates, and, on the death of his father in 1868, he became the 3rd Marquess of Salisbury.

Robert Michael James Gascoyne-Cecil, 7th Marquess of Salisbury, Baron Gascoyne-Cecil, KG, KCVO, PC, DL (born 30 September 1946) is a British Conservative politician. From 1979 to 1987 he represented South Dorset in the House of Commons , and in the 1990s he was Leader of the House of Lords under his courtesy title of Viscount Cranborne .
