John Ponsonby, 1º visconde Ponsonby (c. 1770 – 22 de fevereiro de 1855) foi um diplomata e político britânico. Era o filho mais velho de William Ponsonby , 1º Baron Ponsonby. Serviu como membro da Irish House of Commons por Tallaght (1793–1797) e por Dungarvan (1797–1800).

The portrait can be quite accurately dated between 1835-36 when Sir Ponsonby was Colonel of the 86th (Royal County Down) Regiment of Foot, wearing that uniform, also being Governor of Malta during this period. The portrait has recently been cleaned and conserved. It sports a period frame and has an applied plaque stating who the sitter is.
