Moshe Dayan, with his iconic eye patch, became the face of Israel’s astonishing Six Day War. After leading Israel to victory in the 1956 Sinai Campaign, Dayan was appointed defense minister in 1967, ahead of the Six Day War, in order to assuage the public’s growing fear of annihilation.
Moshe Dayan var en israelsk officer og politiker. Han var fra 1929 medlem af den illegale jødiske organisation Haganah og fængslet af de britiske myndigheder i 1939-1941. Efter udråbelsen af staten Israel i maj 1948 blev Dayan kommandant i Jerusalem, og i 1953-1958 var han chef for hærens generalstab og bl.a. ansvarlig for Sinaifelttoget i Den Anden Arabisk-israelske Krig i 1956.
