Reach for the Sky. Reach for the Sky is a 1956 British biographical film about aviator Douglas Bader, based on the 1954 biography of the same name by Paul Brickhill. The film stars Kenneth More and was directed by Lewis Gilbert. It won the BAFTA Award for Best British Film of 1956. The film's composer John Addison was Bader's brother-in-law.

5 de out. de 2019 · Douglas Bader was the living embodiment of the RAF motto, ‘Per ardua ad astra’ (‘Through adversity to the stars’) He led the squadrons to 30,000 ft and, as they crossed the French coast just south of Le Touquet, he saw a dozen Messerschmitt 109s dead ahead and about 2,000 ft below. They were flying four abreast and not looking behind.

He destroyed 22 enemy aircraft and was a larger than life character - which alone made him a well-known name. But that he overcame losing his legs in a flying accident in 1931 to achieve all that he did has made him a flying legend.
