Although somewhat more obtusely written than the '70s volume, Christgau's '80s rock and roll music guide is an excellent way to find the best music of the decade. Notable for what was included as much as what was not: an appendix lists a couple hundred "post new wave" bands that the author felt did not merit more than a mention.

Rather than having read, which i have, i still keep it around along with his reviews of lps in the 80s. Christgau was a reviewer for the Village Voice. He was a great rock critic, along with Ellen Willis Lester Bangs & a select other few. His guide made the Rolling Stone Guide seem stupid—it was sophisticated & funny.
1 de jan. de 1981 · Sorely missing are rock blues legends like Rory Gallagher or mainstream rockers like AC/DC, Rush, and others. His cryptic and short reviews don’t lead to much insight on the albums. As a 60s through 80s rock purist, I was highly disappointed in the albums he reviewed and his grading.
