  2. About the memorial: This is the war memorial from West Downs School, Winchester, an independent preparatory school. The memorial was moved to WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre after the school closed in the 1980s. The school was was attended by Sir Peter Scott, the founder of the Severn Wildfowl Trust (now the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust).

  4. Imogen Payne joined The Downs for a term’s maternity cover in 2008 as a Year 4 teacher. She is now the Deputy Head Academic and still enjoys teaching many year groups across the school. ROMSEY ROAD West Downs School (Main Range) II Preparatory school. c.1880, architect Thomas Stopher, a local man who was also three times Mayor of Winchester, as a grammar school, in a mixture of Gothic and Queen Anne styles. Long range of red brick, the front elevation faced with flints with some stone marble and red brick dressings.
