Charley Varrick is based on The Looters by John Reese, a novel I’ve never read, so I guess one would have to look there first to find whether these are conscious references. Generally, though, I don’t see Siegel as a particularly Hitchcockian filmmaker; even the way he orchestrates suspense is very different.
