The exact origins of Lincoln’s Inn, and in fact any of the other three Inns of Court, are not fully known. We do know that the Inn’s formal records, or governing minutes known as the ‘Black Books’, go back continuously to 1422, which is nearly eighty years earlier than any other Inn.
Visit Us. Lincoln’s Inn is located in central London. The main entrance to the estate is staffed twenty four hours a day and is located on the south east corner of Lincoln’s Inn Fields. The estate is conveniently located only a short walk from either Holborn or Chancery Lane tube stations.
Lincoln’s Inn is London’s oldest of the four remaining Inns of Court. It was a fully functional institution by 1422, although it is likely that it existed several decades prior. The Inns of Court were developed as a result of King Edward I’s Order in Council, which was issued in 1292.
