Both her baronetcy of Willoughby and the lordship of the manor of Barbican ultimately passed to her son, Peregrine Bertie, Lord Willoughby de Eresby (1555 – 1601). His will referred to his Manor as “Willoughby House or Barbican”. Richard and Catherine Bertie fled England when Mary came to the throne, to escape persecution as Protestants.

St. James kyrka i Spilsby där Peregrine Bertie, 13:e baron Willoughby de Eresby ligger begravd i ättens familjevalv. Bertie döptes i kyrkan Saint Willibrord i Wesel den 14 oktober 1555. När Elisabet I av England blev drottning kunde Berties föräldrar återvända hem efter sin exil och de ansökte då om engelskt medborgarskap åt sin son, vilket han beviljades den 2 augusti 1559.
