Her husband, the earl, was then appointed Governor-General of the Union of South Africa, and served from 1924-31.

I think she’s one of my faves!!! Princess Alice was the only daughter of Prince Leopold (Queen Victoria’s son) and Princess Helen of Waldeck-Pyrmont. She married Queen Mary’s brother, the Earl of Athlone “Alge” and so was part of much of the Royal history from the time of her birth in 1883 to when she died, nearly 100 years later in 1981.
