The first Duke of Wellington has at least 90 English pubs named after him. But not, sadly, the one owned by his descendent Sofia Wellseley, who runs the Fox and Pheasant with James Blunt, hard by the Chelsea football stadium.
The Duke died at Walmer Castle in September 1852 and is buried in the crypt of St. Paul’s cathedral. But all these years later, nowhere holds a stronger impression of Wellington the man, than Stratfield Saye. Now over 200 years later, Stratfield Saye House is still the private home of the 9th Duke of Wellington.
Henry Hugh Arthur FitzRoy Somerset, 10th Duke of Beaufort (4 April 1900 – 5 February 1984), married Princess Mary of Teck. He left no issue and was succeeded by David Somerset, a first cousin twice removed. Lord Beaufort died in 1924, aged 77, at Badminton House, Gloucestershire. He is buried at St Michael and All Angels Church, Badminton .
