Manuel I of Portugal, nicknamed the Fortunate (Alcochete, May 31, 1469-Lisbon, December 13, 1521) was king of Portugal. He was the eighth son of the infant Ferdinand of Portugal, Duke of Viseo and grandson of Edward I, and Beatrice, granddaughter of John I.
