Trayectoria [ editar ] McMurtry creció en un rancho en las afueras de Archer City, Texas, y estudió en la universidad North Texas State.
En 1969, Larry McMurtry, qui vient de déménager à Washington DC, ouvre une première librairie, Booked up, à Georgetown. Il ouvrira une seconde librairie en 1988 à Archer City qui était l'une des plus grandes librairies indépendantes des États-Unis avec un fonds de plus de 400 000 titres.
