Her deep religious feelings were influenced by her upbringing in Ebersdorf, a center of Pietism. Augusta married Francis, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, and bore him ten children, with seven surviving to adulthood. Her notable descendants include Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, King Leopold I of Belgium, and Empress Carlota of Mexico.

Countess Augusta Caroline Reuss of Ebersdorf and Lobenstein (German: Gräfin Reuß zu Ebersdorf und Lobenstein ) (19 January 1757 – 6 November 1831), was the daughter of Count Heinrich XXIV Reuss (1724-1779) and his wife Countess Karoline Ernestine of Erbach-Schönberg (1727-1796).
