Sir Thomas Shenton Whitelegge Thomas was a British colonial administrator most notable for his role as Governor of the Straits Settlements in Singapore. 2. Shenton Thomas served from 9 November 1934 to 15 February 1942, during which time the Second World War broke out, and again from 12 September 1945 to 31 March 1946, when the Straits Settlements was dissolved and Singapore became a crown colony.

LONDON; Jan. 17 (AP)--Sir Shenton Thomas. Governor of the pre-war Straits Settlements and High Commissioner for the Malay States when Singapore fell to the Japanese in Word War II, died yesterday.
Shenton Thomas nacque il 10 ottobre 1879 a Southwark, Londra, dal Reverendo Thomas William Thomas e sua moglie Charlotte Susanna Whitelegge. Frequentò prima la St. John's School, Latherhead e poi il Queens College di Cambridge. Prima di trasferirsi in Malaysia come amministratore coloniale, Thomas fu il governatore di Nyasaland dal 1929 al 1932.
