William was born on 18 December 1766. He was the second son of Lady Catharine Ponsonby and Aubrey Beauclerk, 5th Duke of St Albans, a Whig Member of Parliament for Thetford from 1761 to 1768 and for Aldborough from 1768 to 1774. His elder brother was Aubrey Beauclerk, 6th Duke of St Albans (father of Aubrey Beauclerk, 7th Duke of St Albans ).
Beauclerk married Sarah Davenport, who is an artist and designer, at Bestwood Lodge, Nottingham in June 2017. Charles Beauclerk is a Vice-President of the Royal Stuart Society , of which his father, the 14th Duke of St Albans , is presently the Governor-General (since 1989) and his grandfather, the 13th Duke , held this office between 1976 and 1988.
St Albans married Nathalie Chatham Walker (1915 - 1985) on 21 March 1938. They divorced in 1947 having had one son: Murray de Vere Beauclerk, 14th Duke of Saint Albans (born 19 January 1939) He married secondly Suzanne Marie Adèle Fesq on 19 March 1947. They had five children: Lord Peter Charles de Vere Beauclerk (born 13 January 1948)
