This episode was based on the short story ‘The Under Dog’ (note the slightly different spelling), which was first published in April 1926 in Mystery Magazine (and then in the UK later that year in London Magazine).

Zunächst versucht jemand, die Unterlagen für ein besonders widerstandsfähiges Gummi zu stehlen, das die Firma in Deutschland produzieren lassen möchte. Kurz darauf wird Sir Reuben Astwell, der Chef der Firma, ermordet aufgefunden.
