Une nouvelle vague de popularité mondiale a eu lieu en 1971, lorsque le jeu a atteint le Japon, a subi de légères modifications et a reçu le nom de «Othello» (Othello). Depuis lors, ce nom est devenu le plus commun, bien qu'en Russie, le jeu s'appelle toujours Reversi.
