Eddie never forgot what golf gave him, and he gave back in return. Eddie went on to sponsor and advise Byron Nelson and Ken Venturi and other up coming golf professionals of the day. He started the Eddie Lowery Scholarship program and funded the Francis Ouimet Scholarship fund and sat on the USGA executive committee for three years.

Biography. Lowery was the fifth child born in Newton, Massachusetts, to John and Maria Lowery (née Curran), who were Irish immigrants. He moved to San Francisco, California, and championed the rising amateur careers of Ken Venturi (1964 U.S. Open Champion), Harvie Ward (1955 & 1956 U.S. Amateur Champion), and Tony Lema (1964 British Open Champion), among others.

Credit to the caddie. Francis when writing an article about his 1913 US Open victory for the "American Golfer" gave his young caddie, Eddie Lowery, tremendous credit for the job he had done. Stating that he was a "veritable inspiration whose influence on my game I can not overestimate" and that a much brighter or headier chap would be hard to find.
