  4. About the author (2004) William Makepeace Thackeray was born in Calcutta, India, where his father was in service to the East India Company. After the death of his father in 1816, he was sent to England to attend school. Upon reaching college age, Thackeray attended Trinity College, Cambridge, but he left before completing his degree.

  7. 1 de jan. de 1999 · I really enjoyed this book. Unlike the previous reviewer, I found it totally enjoyable and informative. It is not a book of jokes: it's mostly satire, and is amusing rather than funny, though I did laugh out loud a few times. What surprised me was that so many of these snobs still exist in the 21st century!
