16 de mar. de 2002 · Theodosia Bartow Prevost (1746–1794) was the wife of James Marcus Prevost (1736–1781), a major in the First Battalion of the British 60th (Royal American) Regiment with a North American rank of lieutenant colonel. After his death, she married Aaron Burr in 1782.
Theodosia Burr Alston was born to Aaron Burr and Theodosia Bartow Prevost in Albany, New York in 1783, a year after they married.Alston's mother was the widow of Jacques Marcus Prevost (1736-1781), a British Army officer who settled in New York City; she had five other children from that marriage and was nine years Burr's senior.
Theodosia Bartow Prevost’s life is represented at The Hermitage as that of a well respected, independent woman managing hearth and home. Because of her integral role defining Women and Domestic Life, Theodosia is on the New Jersey Women’s Heritage Trail.
9 de ago. de 2019 · A few of the early readers of The Secret Wife of Aaron Burr have expressed surprise that Theodosia Bartow Prevost and her husband James Mark or Marcus (or Jacques-Marc; he went by both the French and Anglicized versions of his name) Prevost owned slaves on their New Jersey property.
Aaron Burr had only one child, Theodosia, born June 21, 1783, in Albany, NY. She was named for her mother, Theodosia Bartow Prevost Burr who was, in turn, named for her father, Theodosius Bartow. The name means “gift of God”. In 1784 the Burrs relocated to New York City where Aaron began his law career.

Young Theodosia and her father were extremely close, and drew closer still after mother Theodosia (I know, it’s confusing that they shared the same name) died in 1794.
