The national sports press first took note of Lew Alcindor when he was only 15, playing for Power Memorial.

18 de mar. de 2024 · The real joys were as in early 1963, as a high school sophomore at Power Memorial Academy in New York City when fellow Panthers staged a 7-Foot Party in the privacy of the locker room. He stood shoeless and backed against a pole, a teammate stepped on a chair and placed a ruler at the top of his head to draw a line, another unfurled a tape measure, and yes: seven feet tall.

The start of Power's Basketball successes. The 1930s to the 1950s. In the late 30's, Power Memorial began fielding Varsity Basketball teams that had become very competitive. Reflecting the abilities of the phenomenal Ezersky brothers, two championships came Power's way, the All-City in 1937 and again in 1941.
