In 1969, Lee and Anna Strasberg founded The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute to train and nurture present and future generations of aspiring actors. Today, our scholarship program serves to honor this vision and support students with great passion and potential for a career in the performing arts.
The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute is renowned for teaching Method Acting in its purest form. The teachings and legacy of Lee Strasberg’s Method are maintained by his widow, Anna Strasberg (Creative Director and Co-Founder), and his son, David Lee Strasberg (Creative Director and CEO at the Los Angeles campus).
Famous for its Red Doors, The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York has welcomed an incredible array of artists into its historic building over the past 50 years. Rachel Brosnahan, Laura Dern, Alec Baldwin, Chandra Wilson, Miles Teller, Sienna Miller, John Leguizamo, Claire Danes, and Lady Gaga are just a few of the many actors who have called this campus home.
THE METHOD. Lee Strasberg often described Method Acting as what all actors have always done whenever they acted well. What Lee Strasberg meant was not that The Method™ had always been around, but rather, The Method came into being as a way of giving an actor the means to achieve the type of results that had moved and captivated audiences across time.
The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute® is one cohesive school, founded by Lee Strasberg with the same educational mission and the same high standard of actor training. Both campuses teach Lee Strasberg’s Method in its purest form and offer the same core classes. Elective classes, however, will vary at each campus and are subject to change.
