  1. Eötvös Loránd University was founded in Nagyszombat 1635, by Péter Pázmány, an archbishop and theologian. Later the University was relocated to Budapest and renamed after the famous physicist Baron Lorand Eötvös in 1950. Probably for the communists even a baron was more acceptable than an archbishop.
