Emily est une fervente admiratrice de l'œuvre de son mari tout en employant son propre talent à l'écriture de paroles pour des musiques. Après la mort de celui-ci en 1892, Lady Tennyson se consacre à aider son fils pour l'écriture de sa biographie. Elle est enterrée au All Saints' Church, de Freshwater, sur l' Ile de Wight .
Emily Sarah Tennyson, Baroness Tennyson ( née Sellwood; 9 July 1813 – 10 August 1896), known as Emily, Lady Tennyson, was the wife of the poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson, and an author and composer in her own right. Emily was the oldest of three daughters, raised by a single father, after her mother Sarah died when she was three years old.
Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson with his wife Emily and his sons Hallam and Lionel. In the second half of his life Tennyson’s fortune and popularity flourished as over the next forty years he produced many of his most popular works, such as Enoch Arden and The Charge of the Light Brigade and was awarded a barony in 1883, taking a seat in the House of Lords the year after.
This collection contains 83 letters from Emily Lady Tennyson, wife of Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809-1892), primarily to Margaret Gatty, children’s author and amateur marine biologist. The letters date from the time of Lady Tennyson and Mrs. Gatty’s first meeting in November 1858 through 1873, shortly before Mrs. Gatty’s death.
