Alphonso Taft (Townshend, 5 de novembro de 1810 – San Diego, 21 de maio de 1891) foi um jurista, diplomata e político norte-americano que serviu no Gabinete Presidencial de Ulysses S. Grant, primeiro como Secretário da Guerra em 1876 e depois como Procurador-Geral de 1876 a 1877.
Alphonso Taft (November 5, 1810 – May 21, 1891) was an American jurist, diplomat, politician, Attorney General and Secretary of War under President Ulysses S. Grant. He was also the founder of the Taft political dynasty, and father of President and Chief Justice William Howard Taft.

Alphonso Taft was born in 1810 in Townshend, Vermont. He graduated with honors from Yale College, studied law, and was admitted to the Connecticut bar in 1838. He then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he established a successful law practice.
