Nathanael, also known as Nathaniel of Cana was a disciple of Jesus, mentioned only in chapters 1 and 21 of the Gospel of John. He is typically viewed as the same person as Bartholomew.

John, however, refers to the apostle almost exclusively as Nathanael in his gospel. There could be several reasons for this, which we’ll get to in a moment. Why the two names?
