General Sir Peter John Cosgrove, AK, CVO, MC (born 28 July 1947) is an Australian retired senior Army officer who served as the 26th governor-general of Australia, in office from 2014 to 2019. A graduate of the Royal Military College, Duntroon, Cosgrove fought in the Vietnam War, receiving the Military Cross in 1971.

Peter Cosgrove was born in Sydney in 1947. The son of a soldier, he attended Waverley College in Sydney and graduated in 1968 from the Royal Military College, Duntroon. Early in his military career, he fought in Vietnam, commanding a rifle platoon.
Peter Cosgrove graduated from the Royal Military College Duntroon in 1968 and has risen to become the Chief of Australia's Defence Force. He was born in Sydney on 28 July 1947 and educated at Waverley College. Having decided on a military career, Cosgrove entered Duntroon in 1965 as Australia's involvement in the Vietnam War was escalating.
