William Hathaway Forbes (1840–1897) was an American businessman. Early life. Forbes was born on October 31, 1840, in Milton, Massachusetts. His father, John Murray Forbes, was a French-born railroad magnate. Forbes enrolled at Harvard University in 1857, but he was expelled in 1860. [1] .

William Hathaway Forbes was born on 31 October 1840 in Milton, Massachusetts. He was the son of John Murray Forbes and Sarah Swain Hathaway. His french born father was a American railroad magnate, merchant, philanthropist and abolitionist. He entered Harvard in 1857 but was expelled just three years later in 1860.
