  3. The New Bern District Minuteman Battalion was created by the Continental Congress on September 9, 1775 for six months duration. The battalion was commanded by Colonel Richard Caswell . It was disbanded on April 10, 1776 in favor of New Bern District Brigade of militia, which was commanded by Brigadier General Richard Caswell.
