Świdnica (Polish: [ɕfidˈɲit͡sa] ⓘ; German: Schweidnitz; Czech: Svídnice; Silesian: Świdńica) is a city on the Bystrzyca River in south-western Poland in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. As of 2021, it has a population of 55,413 inhabitants.

Świdnica (ɕfʲiˈdɲiʦa, deutsch Schweidnitz, schlesisch Schweinz, tschechisch Svídnice) ist eine Stadt in der polnischen Woiwodschaft Niederschlesien. Von 1975 bis 1998 gehörte die Stadt zur Woiwodschaft Wałbrzych (deutsch Waldenburg).
Der Landkreis Schweidnitz war ein preußischer Landkreis in Schlesien, der von 1742 bis 1945 bestand. Seine Kreisstadt war die Stadt Schweidnitz, die seit 1899 einen eigenen Stadtkreis bildete. Das frühere Kreisgebiet liegt heute in der polnischen Woiwodschaft Niederschlesien.

Schweidnitz is the chief grain market of the district. Schweidnitz, dating from about the 11th century, received civic rights in 1250. About 1278 it became the capital of a principality, with an area of about moo sq. m., which belonged to Bohemia from 1353 till 1741, when it passed into the possession of Prussia.
