Pedro Martínez was a dominant pitcher who won three Cy Young Awards and led the AL in ERA, WHIP and strikeouts in 2000. He also helped the Red Sox end their World Series drought in 2004 and the Mets reach the NLCS in 2006.
He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015 in his first year of eligibility, joining Juan Marichal as the second Dominican to be enshrined; his number (45) was retired by the Red Sox in a ceremony held two days after his Hall induction.

Pedro Martínez reached the 3,000 strikeout milestone in 2007 after recovering from a rotator cuff surgery. He pitched for the Mets and the Phillies before being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015.
