Violet and Sonia were Alice Keppel’s daughters. Raised in Portman Square, London, they enjoyed an unusual childhood, watching aristocrats and politicians coming in and out of the house, as well as ‘Kingy’, their pet-name for King Edward VII.
When Sonia Rosemary Keppel was born on 24 May 1900, in London, England, United Kingdom, her father, George Keppel, was 34 and her mother, Alice Frederica Edmonston, was 32. She married Roland Calvert Cubitt 3rd Baron Ashcombe on 16 November 1920.

Through her younger daughter, Sonia Cubitt, Alice Keppel is the great-grandmother of Queen Camilla, the second wife of Edward VII's great-great-grandson King Charles III.
Born Violet Keppel, she was the daughter of Alice Keppel, who was married to George Keppel, a son of the 7th Earl of Albemarle. Members of the Keppel family thought her biological father was William Beckett, subsequently 2nd Baron Grimthorpe, a banker and MP for Whitby. [1]
In 1940 the Keppels returned to England and went to live with their daughter Sonia in the country. However she decided that she preferred "bombs to boredom" and they moved into rooms in the Ritz Hotel in London for the rest of the war.
