Wolcott (locally / ˈ w ʊ l k ə t /) is a town in New Haven County, Connecticut, United States. It had a population of 16,142 at the 2020 census.
Located at the northern tip of New Haven County, the town of Wolcott, originally known as Farmingbury, incorporated from Southington and Waterbury in 1796. Its name honors Governor Oliver Wolcott, who is credited with casting the deciding vote for incorporation.
He was a signer of the United States Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation as a representative of Connecticut, and the nineteenth governor of Connecticut. Wolcott was a major general for the Connecticut militia in the Revolutionary War serving under George Washington.
