Sir Lionel Tollemache, 1st Baronet (1562 – 1612), the son of Lionel Tollemache of Helmingham, Suffolk and Susanna Jermyn, served twice as Sheriff of Suffolk, in 1593 and 1609, and was knighted in 1612.
The Tollemache Baronetcy, of Helmingham in the County of Suffolk, was created in the Baronetage of England on 22 May 1611 for Lionel Tollemache, High Sheriff of Suffolk in 1609 and 1617. [1] The second Baronet represented Orford in the House of Commons.

Elizabeth Tollemache, 2nd Countess of Dysart (d. 1698), married firstly Sir Lionel Tollemache, 3rd Baronet (1624 - 1669) and secondly John Maitland, 1st Duke and 2nd Earl of Lauderdale, 3rd Lord Thirlestane (1616-1682).
By April 1619 Tollemache was joint vice admiral of Suffolk, together with his wife’s uncle Sir Michael Stanhope*, in which month he and Stanhope were reappointed by the new lord admiral, the marquess of Buckingham.
