Shorewood is a village in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 13,859 at the 2020 census . History[edit] In the early 19th century when the first white settlers arrived, the Shorewood area was controlled by Native Americans, including the Menominee, Potawatomi, and Sauk people.

About Our Village. Shorewood is a unique and pedestrian-friendly urban village styled in the European tradition. We are the first suburb north of the city of Milwaukee on the shores of Lake Michigan - bordered by Lake Michigan on the east, the Milwaukee River on the west, and the Village of Whitefish Bay to the north.
In 2003 the current library was completely renovated and expanded to include the Historical Society, Health Department, and Senior Center. The Shorewood Police Department was organized in 1920 and, since 1929, has been headquartered in its present building, earlier called the Safety Building. The Shorewood Fire Department was organized in 1929.
