Jim Murphy (1947-2022) was an American author of nonfiction and fiction books for children and young adults, especially about American history. He won the Margaret A. Edwards Award and several other honors for his works, such as The Great Fire, An American Plague, and The Boys' War.
Jim Murphy was a Labour MP for East Renfrewshire from 1997 to 2015 and the leader of the Scottish Labour Party from 2014 to 2015. He served in the New Labour governments of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown as a junior minister and the Shadow Cabinet, and lost his seat in the 2015 general election to the SNP.
