  1. Sir Edward Guildford (alternative spelling Guilford; c. 1474 – 1534) was an English courtier and Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports and Marshal of Calais in 1519. Upon his father's death in 1506, he inherited his father's position as Master of the Armoury for life.

Both events were positive for John – the Guilford family were in high favour and his new step-father was none other than Arthur Plantagenet, the King’s half-uncle. Guilford was Master Armourer to the King and gave Dudley excellent military training.

In 1337 Robert of Artois was to be lodged in the king's house in the castle, and to be allowed to hunt in the park.
