Zerbst today counts about 24,000 inhabitants and, at 467.65 km 2 (180.56 sq mi), is the fifth largest town in Germany by area. The current municipal area stretches from the Elbe in the southwest up to the Fläming Heath and the state border with Brandenburg in the northeast.
Zerbst/Anhalt ist eine Stadt im Landkreis Anhalt-Bitterfeld im Land Sachsen-Anhalt. Mit 468,4 km² ist Zerbst die nach ihrer Fläche fünftgrößte Gemeinde in Deutschland.
Zerbst was once Anhalt’s largest and most important town. The mighty medieval city wall with its gates and towers, the former monastery complexes, the churches and historic buildings still bear witness to this today. A stone Roland, an early symbol of jurisdiction, has stood guard on the market square since 1445.

Anhalt-Zerbst was a district in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It is bounded by (from the north and clockwise) the districts Potsdam-Mittelmark ( Brandenburg) and Wittenberg, the city of Dessau and the districts of Köthen, Schönebeck and Jerichower Land .
