The 10 main branches of the family are Anatolian, Indo-Iranian, Greek, Italic, Germanic, Armenian, Tocharian, Celtic, Balto-Slavic, and Albanian.

Os povos da Europa, América, Oceania e entre alguns na Ásia como India e Irão têm origens indo-europeias.
