Children First, National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children was launched on October 2nd 2017. This Guidance is a primary reference for all citizens to report concerns and includes the new legislative obligations.
Children First refers to Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children 2017 and the Children First Act 2015. It is a generic term used to encompass the guidance, the legislation and the implementation of both.

This revised version of Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children describes the four main types of abuse and sets out the steps which should be taken to ensure that the child or young person is protected from harm.
The aim of the Children First: National Guidance is to promote the safety and well-being of children. Parents and guardians have the primary responsibility for the care and protection of children.
