  1. RoPE Score is a tool to identify patients with cryptogenic stroke and PFO who are likely to have a stroke attributable to the PFO. It uses clinical factors and Bayes' theorem to calculate the attributable fraction of PFO to stroke.

Cryptogenic stroke (CS) is the type of cerebral ischemia of obscure or unknown origin occurring in 1 out of 3 strokecases. When the cause remains unknown it is either because the event is transitory or reversible, investigations are limited for some reason or the cause does not become apparent regardless of investigations. Whilst the prevalence of ...

The RoPE score was published by Kentet al. following a study on the data of 3,023 patients from 12 databases. A predictive model for statistical relatedness of PFO to stroke etiology was developed for use in patients with cryptogenic stroke and a simple index to stratify patients was derived. The study also estimated the the stratum-specific PFO-at...

RoPE score is a tool to assess the likelihood of patent foramen ovale (PFO) as the cause of cryptogenic stroke. It uses six factors, such as history of hypertension, diabetes, smoking, and cortical infarct, to calculate a 10-point score and estimate the PFO-attributable fraction and stroke recurrence risk.

  2. The RoPE score estimated attributable fraction is highly correlated to the relative risk reduction of device versus medical therapy. This observation suggests the RoPE score identifies patients with cryptogenic stroke who are likely to have a PFO that is pathogenic rather than incidental.

  4. 1 de jun. de 2023 · RoPE score is a tool to assess the likelihood of PFO as the cause of cryptogenic stroke and the risk of stroke recurrence. It is based on age, vascular risk factors, history of stroke/TIA, and cortical infarct.

  5. 31 de mar. de 2021 · Cumulative probability of stroke recurrence in patients with embolic stroke of undetermined source without patent foramen ovale (PFO), likely incidental PFO (Risk of Paradoxical Embolism [RoPE] score 0–6), and likely pathogenic PFO (RoPE score 7–10).

  6. The RoPE score ranges from 0 to 10, with scores of 0 to 3 indicating a negligible likelihood that the stroke is attributable to the PFO and a score of 10 indicating an approximately 90% probability that the stroke is attributable to the PFO.
